First photo of Samsung’s stunning ‘no bezel’ 8K TV leaked online – and could launch in just days
A RARE image of Samsung's top-secret "zero bezel" TV appears to have been leaked online.
The widely rumoured 8K QLED television tipped to debut next week has no bezel – the border that usually surrounds a display.
Samsung fans have been expecting such a design for weeks, based on a number of online leaks.
Now German tech site has revealed what it claims is the final design for the telly.
The images appear to be official Samsung renders – generated on computers by graphic designers – rather than actual photographs.
But they clearly show a stunning TV with a screen that appears to run off like an infinity pool.
However, talk of "zero bezel" may not entirely be true.
The telly does appear to have a very slim "chin" at the bottom of the display.
But it's hardly noticeable, and a far cry from most modern TV sets – and further still from the bulky CRT sets in use just a few decades ago.
Samsung is expected to show off the new design in Las Vegas next week, at the CES 2020 tech show.
CES is a major consumer electronics show that takes place in January ever year.
The Las Vegas, USA event draws tech firms and gadget fans from around the world, and has been running on and off since 1967.
It's typically attended by major names like Samsung and Sony, and this year runs from January 7 to January 10.
But most of the news will drop just before those dates, during pre-show press conferences on Monday.
Samsung's CES 2020 press conference begins on Monday, January 6 at 9.30pm New York time – or 2.30am on Tuesday in the UK.
Samsung – a brief history
Here's what you need to know...
- Samsung is a major South Korean company made up of many businesses that operate globally
- It's known locally as a "chaebol", which means "business conglomerate"
- It was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company
- But over several decades, it branched out into food processing, insurance, textiles and retail
- It wasn't until the late 1960s when Samsung entered the electronics industry – for which it's best known in the west today
- It also launched businesses in construction and shipbuilding in the 1970s
- Today, Samsung's most important sources of income are its smartphones and computer chips
- The firm accounts for around a fifth of South Korea's total exports, and roughly 17% of the country's GDP
- More than 320,000 staff are employed by Samsung globally
- And in 2017, Samsung turned over the equivalent of £174billion today in revenue
Samsung is a CES giant, dominating the show floor with an enormous stand covered in sparkling products from a range of categories.
Like LG, Samsung will be showing off some impressive QLED televisions – including one 8K model with no bezel, according to rumours.
Samsung will probably show off new laptops, computer monitors, and maybe some low- to mid-range smartphones too.
And we'll likely see some Samsung home appliances at CES, including smart fridges and washing machines.
The bad news is that it's impossible to verify Samsung's 8K "zero bezel" display until we hear an official announcement.
Until then, take all rumours and leaks with a pinch of salt.
