The referee sent the decision to the VAR room but Lovren’s protests were ignored as the end of the first half was confirmed.

The Liverpool defender then made his feelings known as both teams went in to the changing rooms.

But his claims went ignored as England prepared for the second 45 with a 1-0 lead in their pocket.

Three Lions fans believe it could be coming home after Kieran Trippier’s fantastic free-kick put Gareth Southgate’s men ahead with just five minutes on the clock.

The right-back became just the third Englishman to score in a World Cup semi-final after Sir Bobby Moore and Gary Lineker.

But England’s dream turned into a nightmare in the second half.

A slip in concentration saw Croatia launch a fierce cross into England’s box.

And Ivan Perisic was on hand to head home as Croatia levelled the scores with just over 20 minutes of normal time remaining.
