Football fans raise thousands to repair ambulance and cars damaged in England World Cup celebrations

MILLWALL fans are digging deep to raise funds for an ambulance that was wrecked after England's 2-0 World Cup quarter-final win over Sweden.

Supporters - including a Gareth Southgate lookalike - clambered on top of the vehicle as a medic responded to an emergency call near Borough Market, close to Millwall's home The Den.

A woman pictured jumping on an ambulance car as booze-fuelled England fans took to the streets following the win against Sweden was identified by police earlier today.

Now Millwall Supporters' Club is aiming to raise £5,000 to repair the emergency vehicle, which suffered a dented bonnet and smashed windows during the incident.

By Monday morning, the fans' Justgiving Crowdfunding amount had already hit £5,062.

The page said: "At the Millwall Supporters Club we think it is very important to help our local community, so we want to help to raise funds to help with the repair of an emergency response vehicle that was damaged after the England v Sweden game in the World Cup 2018 Quarter Final.

"We are very grateful for any donations and support you can offer. If the insurance company pays for the repairs, all monies raised will be donated to the Local Ambulance Service whose vehicle has sustained this damage."

Cops thanked social media users for sharing their plea for information adding "Now it's our turn".

Frenzied fans dented the bonnet of the medical response vehicle and smashed the windscreen and a wing mirror as they climbed onto its roof during celebrations following England's 2-0 victory.

London Ambulance Service and the police shared the images online in a bid to track down the revellers with many adding dismay at scenes in the capital.

By early hours of Sunday morning police were sharing the images on Twitter saying they would like to identify the individuals.

Just a couple of hours later, Poplar Police posted on Twitter: "IDENTIFIED Many thanks to all for sharing. Now it's our turn."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed no arrests had been made by late Sunday evening as police still appealed for the identity of others.

It is unclear if the woman was hurt in the incident.

London Ambulance Service condemned the incident after it left the car out of service and unable to respond to emergencies.

It tweeted: "We're delighted with the result, but this has put a big dampener on the celebrations for us: while our officer attended a call nearby, this car was damaged in Borough High Street during the celebrations after the game - it's now off the road to be repaired."

West Midlands Police said it took the most ever 999 calls in it history, logging 3,276 in 24 hours owing to a "mix of the sun, World Cup and alcohol";.

Sergeant Wayne Baker, with West Yorkshire Police, tweeted his disgust after the pictures emerged.

He wrote: "When I see behaviour like this it makes me anything but proud to be English....You are a total disgrace. As for our National Football Team....that does make me proud to be English!"

The match was held on the same weekend as the London Pride Parade, Wireless Festival and British Summertime Hyde Park, which brought swathes of tourists to the capital.

In Nottingham, a group of supporters were seen dancing on top of a bus shelter, while other clips from Manchester and Birmingham showed people on top of buses with their shirts off.

In Clapham, south London, fans were captured plunging through a glass bus stop after leaping from the top of a double-decker bus.

And in another video, a car can be seen with a smashed roof and windscreen in Nottingham.

England now meet Croatia in the semi-final on Wednesday at 7pm.
