ENGLAND hero Harry Maguire has proved he is anything but rubbish - but that wasn't always the case.

The Three Lions defender turned up to his first training session in August with his kit in a bin bag.

A video of Maguire being greeted by staff went viral as he arrived with a bin liner, a suitcase and a backpack.

While fans loved what they saw from the humble Leicester star, his mum didn't.

Maguire, 25, explained: "I’ve seen the picture on Twitter with the bags. It was just full of boots and shin pads and dirty stuff which I’ll give the kit man.

"I’ll try and get some better luggage in future. My mum mentioned it. She sent me a text later on saying ‘what’s with the bags?’"

Thanks to Maguire, who scored in Saturday's 2-0 quarter-final win over Sweden, England are not packing their bags yet.

Gareth Southgate's men have two more World Cup games to play - the semi-final against Croatia and either the final or third place playoff against France or Belgium.

Maguire was trolled by Kyle Walker over a picture of himself talking to his girlfriend Fern Hawkins.

He joined in on the joke by poking fun over his 'binman' past.

The England ace tweeted: "'Can you ask the neighbours to put the bins out on Monday? We're not going home just yet'"

Maguire has been a standout performer this tournament and now looks a steal for Leicester, who signed him from Hull for £17million last summer.

In August he said: “I try my best to keep my feet on the floor and stay humble and let my ability do the talking."
