Theresa May compares herself to Gareth Southgate in a plea to unite her Cabinet over Brexit plans

THERESA MAY compared herself to Gareth Southgate in a plea for the Cabinet to unite like our England heroes to get Brexit over the line, The Sun can reveal.

Wrapping up her marathon Chequers showdown on Friday to hammer out exit policy, the Prime Minister told her warring top team it was time to “come together” if they were to win like the Three Lions.

And in a dressing down for big beasts Boris Johnson and David Davis, she warned they would lose if “individuals” put themselves first before playing together as team.

After months of bitter rows, Mrs May told her 29 ministers: “In another environment, we have a group of people who everybody said were individuals who won’t want to play together as a team – but they have come together as a team and they are doing rather well.”

And the PM claimed that the England comparison was made by one of her constituents who stopped her in the gym early on Friday morning to tell them to copy our boys.

And responding to her footy plea, insiders say Cabinet Ministers drummed the table and cried “hear hear”.
