Uruguay vs France: Edinson Cavani set to begin World Cup quarter-final on the bench
Striker, 31, picked up an injury to his left leg after netting both goals in his country's 2-1 last-16 win over Portugal
EDINSON CAVANI is set to be on the bench for Uruguay's World Cup quarter-final showdown with France.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker, 31, picked up an injury to his left calf after netting both goals in his country's 2-1 last-16 win over Portugal.
Team doctors said in a statement Monday that a scan showed that Cavani, who has three goals at the tournament, had swelling but no muscle tear.
He trained on Thursday but only did ten minutes of work with the ball away from his team-mates.
Reports in Uruguay now claim that Cavani is set to be ruled out of the clash because he has not taken a full part in training since picking up the problem.
Coach Oscar Tabarez is expected to replace him with ex-Middlesbrough forward Cristhian Stuani.

Uruguay have yet to give any official indication about Cavani's chances to face France at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, saying only that they were "monitoring his progress."
They added: "The player remains injured. He will train apart from the rest of the squad and receive physical therapy."
Cavani was in visible pain when he was substituted in the 74th minute on Saturday.
Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo put his arm around Cavani and helped him walk off the field.
Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur said Cavani "is doing very well, happy about advancing."
Bentancur added that Cavani did some rehabilitation work and that "he's in good spirits. We'll have to wait day by day to see how he feels."
