World Cup 2018: England legend Paul Gascoigne taunts bitter Diego Maradona and insists ‘football’s coming home’

PAUL GASCOIGNE has taunted Diego Maradona after England reached the World Cup quarter-finals against Colombia, who Maradona was supporting.

There is no love lost between England fans and the former Argentina legend, and Gascoigne delighted Three Lions supporters with the tweet.

Gascoigne, now 51, teased Maradona with the caption 'Happy Wednesday!' and signed off 'Football's Coming Home!', responding to a picture of the Argentinian in a Colombia shirt ahead of Tuesday's last 16 clash.

England and Gascoigne now hold all of the bragging rights however after the penalty shoot-out win, their first EVER in a World Cup, while Maradona was blasted by Fifa for claiming the win was a 'theft'.

By contrast, Maradona saw his country bomb out against France, ending a stuttering tournament in which they were held by Iceland and thrashed by Croatia.

Maradona had been a controversial figure at the tournament, caught up in a racism scandal against Iceland and needing a medical check-up after appearing to collapse after the win over Nigeria.
