World Cup 2018: Uruguay star Luis Suarez in injury scare after knock in training – with Edinson Cavani already a major doubt

Barcelona was forced to the sidelines to receive treatment although did complete the session

LUIS SUAREZ hobbled to the sidelines during training today, adding to Uruguay's injury concerns.

Strike partner Edinson Cavani is already a major doubt for their quarter-final clash with France on Friday with a calf injury.

Cavani, who scored twice to sink Portugal in the last round, skipped training again on Tuesday.

And they'll be sweating over Suarez's fitness after he apparently pulled up with discomfort in his right leg.

The Barcelona man received treatment on the sidelines but did resume practice.

It could provide coach Oscar Tabarez with a selection headache knowing his chances of beating France on Friday are a lot slimmer without his two key men.

Uruguay's star man - Luis Suarez

Tabarez did receive positive news that Cavani has not suffered a muscle rupture - which would have ruled him out for the tournament.

The Uruguayan FA confirmed: "The player continues to be in pain. He is able to perform work away from the main group and rehabilitation. His recovery is being controlled.”

He was snapped struggling to make his way down the stairs at Uruguay's training base in Nizhny Novgorod.

The gaffer has already looked at alternatives and it could hand an opportunity to ex-Middlesbrough man Cristhian Stuani.
