A LIONEL MESSI superfan has killed himself after Argentina was knocked out of the World Cup by France, it has been claimed.

The fan, named as Monotosh Halder from Habibpur in West Bengal's Malda district, is believed to have taken his own life after Messi's Argentina were defeated 4-3 on June 30.

It's reported the 20-year-old was heartbroken after Argentina lost, and skipped dinner to sleep.

The following morning, there was no response when his family tried to open his bedroom door and the police were called.

After police officers forced the door, Halder's body was found in his bedroom, it's claimed.

, his father, Mongol Halder said: "My son had no illness. He was an Argentina fan and every day he used to remain glued to the TV since the World Cup had started."

He continued: "He was distraught after Argentina's loss to France. But we never thought he would do something like this.

According to the site, Malda Police said: "We are investigating the case. It seems that he has killed himself since Argentina lost in the World Cup."

The reports of the young man's death come just days after another Messi fan in Kerala left a note before jumping in a river, hours after Argentina lost to Croatia.

The letter found in his bedroom said he could not bear the pain of seeing his beloved Argentina lose, the Hindustani Times reported.

His family told the local paper he seemed "disturbed" after the game and went missing a few hours later.

They told the police who sent a rescue team to search for Alex along the Meenachil river despite the heavy downpour.

The body of Dinu Alex was subsequently pulled from the river on June 24,
