RUSSIA put in a two-hour defensive shift to stun Spain and send them packing in their own capital.
No-one expected anything of the lowest-ranked team in the tournament going into the summer - especially Russian supporters themselves.
So you can hardly blame them for getting the party started on Sunday night after Igor Akinfeev's penalty heroics on Sunday.
The CSKA Moscow veteran saved two spot-kicks - one from Koke and the other from Iago Aspas - to send the hosts into the quarter-finals.
And it's fair to say the locals wasted no time in going ballistic and partying the night away.
While most of the world turned their attention to Croatia vs Denmark, Russian supporters danced, waved flags, cracked open the booze and went off on a mad one.
The looks on the faces of the fans was priceless... a mix of shock and pure ecstasy, as their hopes of the most outrageous World Cup win - on home soil - continues.
The result was even more sweet, after Spain had taken the lead in the 12th minute via a Sergei Ignashevich own goal.
An Artem Dzyuba spot-kick levelled proceedings late in the first-half, before an exhausted-looking Russia parked the bus against the creative juggernauts.
For Spain, they lacked any real penetration, but for Russia, they showed real grit and determination... and just look what it meant to the fans.
