Edinson Cavani outshone Cristiano Ronaldo as Uruguay beat Portugal, but he isn't starting against France in the World Cup quarter-final
ON a night when Cristiano Ronaldo was expected to take centre stage, Edinson Cavani stole the show to fire Uruguay into the quarter-finals with a fantastic brace.
But the PSG star was then carried off the pitch injured during La Celeste's 2-1 win, interestingly enough by Ronaldo himself.
How did Edinson Cavani get injured against Portugal?
Edinson Cavani pulled up with a calf injury with 17 minutes remaining of the World Cup last 16 match.
He was seen icing his calf on the bench but there are also suggestions that the striker has a hamstring problem.
He said: "I hope the pain turns out to be nothing.
"I just felt something at one point and couldn't recover. I hope (to be fit), I'll do everything to make sure I can take to the field with my teammates,
"I am really happy to see all these people partying."

What is the latest update on Edinson Cavani's injury and will he be fit to face France?
According to , he is likely to miss the match after he missed training for the third consecutive day on Wednesday.
He has been receiving intense treatment on his left leg.
With a match against a France team that dismantled Argentina in their last 16 match, Uruguay will be desperate to get Cavani fit.
Earlier this week, boss Oscar Tabarez said: "We don't have a lot of time to recover."
"Right now, we are only worried but we don't know how serious the injury really is."
And Cavani himself told Fifa: "I tweaked my calf. Strains like that can be tricky injuries; I'll have to undergo tests to see how serious it is.
"We've got to keep dreaming. We'll see how it goes – here's hoping I'm fit to continue battling alongside my team-mates next time round."
Cavani is now back in training but started on the bench against the French.
Who replaced Edinson Cavani against France?
Cavani was replaced by former Middlesbrough striker Cristhian Stuani during the match against Portugal.
And Stuani against got the nod over Celta Vigo's Maxi Gomez for the quarter-final.
Both men are coming off the back of excellent seasons in Spanish football with Gomez netting 18 times while Stuani hit 21 for Girona.
Jonathan Urretaviscaya of Mexican club Monterrey is also in the Uruguay squad.
