World Cup 2018: Ashley Young set to win fight with Danny Rose for England place against Colombia
Man Utd left-wing back was rested in the 1-0 loss to Belgium but - Dele Alli replacing Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to be the only change from the Lions side that thrashed Panama 6-1
ASHLEY YOUNG is set for a recall in England’s clash against Colombia.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate was impressed with Danny Rose during the 1-0 loss to Belgium, despite the Tottenham wing-back backing off for the winner.
But the overall fitness of Young, 32, has edged him ahead for Tuesday’s last-16 clash in Moscow.
From the team that thrashed Panama, Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to be replaced by fit-again Dele Alli.
Dele missed that game with a thigh injury but has won his battle to be fit for the knockout stages.
Loftus-Cheek did not train with the rest of the squad yesterday as he did individual work following two full matches last week.
Fabian Delph also missed training as he flew home for the birth of his third child.
Centre-back John Stones trained fully after coming off at half-time against Belgium with a knock.
Southgate is planning to revert to the team that started against Tunisia now Dele has returned to full training.
Only keeper Jordan Pickford, Stones and Loftus-Cheek were retained for the Belgium defeat in Kaliningrad.
Which means nine changes from that team are now possible following Southgate’s decision to give every outfield player game-time at the tournament.
Dele insisted he has no regrets over staying on against Tunisia after suffering the thigh problem.
The Spurs star said: “I’m glad he kept me on. I had a similar injury when we played Real Madrid and scored two so if I had scored maybe people would think differently.
“I felt like I could run it off and I told the manager and the physios I was OK.”
