Uruguay fans go crazy at they celebrate Edinson Cavani opener against Portugal during World Cup last 16 clash

The new Wolves shot-stopper was quick to react moments later as Luis Suarez attempted to fool the 30-year-old with a low free-kick.

Patricio has played in every game so far during this World Cup, but has managed just one clean sheet, coming in the 1-0 win over Morocco.

And he could not get across the goal quicker enough to prevent Cavani powering in the opener.

Whether the shiny gloves had anything to do with it, remains to be seen.

But Patricio, earning his 73rd Portugal cap against Uruguay, will need to hope his new attire does not hinder him as they look to come back from the deficit.

The Iberians' are fighting for a place in the quarter-finals against France, who earlier beat Argentina 4-3.

Portugal are looking to reach the last eight of a World Cup for the first time since finishing fourth in 2006.

But they have since won the European Championships, beating France two years ago in the final.
