World Cup 2018: Pele hails Kylian Mbappe as French star becomes first teenager since Brazilian icon in 1958 to score twice in tournament game
FRANCE were on an absolute mission as they ripped Argentina's defence to shreds to book their place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Didier Deschamps, in his national record 80th game in charge, saw his entire squad put in a superb effort in Kazan to seal a 4-3 win.
But no-one deserved the plaudits more than Kylian Mbappe.
His Michael Owen in 1998-esque marauding run from deep earned France an early penalty - coolly slotted home by Antoine Griezmann.
Later, with the scores level at 2-2, Mbappe scored a quickfire brace to put the French well in control.
His pace, his clinical finishing and his general attitude left Lionel Messi and his Argentina team-mates in pieces.
And in netting twice, Mbappe became the first teenager since Pele in 1958 to score twice in a single World Cup game.
The Brazilian legend of course netted a brace in the final that year in Sweden, as the Samba Stars beat the hosts 5-2.
Mbappe also became the first teenager since Owen in 1998 - 20 years ago - to score twice at a single World Cup.
With France now safely through to the quarters, Deschamps may be hoping from more heroics from his young superstar.
