Who is the Brazil captain against Mexico, and do they have a permanent skipper at World Cup 2018?

Brazil face Mexico in the World Cup and have rotated the captaincy again

BRAZIL made it through the World Cup group stages, but not without a few scares along the way.

And fans of the Selecao will be desperate for a more comfortable viewing against Mexico with a place in the quarter-final at stake.

Who is Brazil captain against Mexico?

PSG centre-back Thiago Silva will lead the Selecao against Mexico.

He is the first Brazil player to captain the team twice at World Cup 2018, having wore the armband in the 2-0 win against Costa Rica.

Thiago Silva was also captain in the last World Cup but was stripped of the position for refusing to take a penalty in the shootout win against Chile.

Do Brazil have a permanent captain?

It has been Brazilian tradition to rotate the captaincy since Neymar stepped down as permanent national team captain.

The PSG star assumed the role until 2016, stepping down following Brazil football's gold medal-winning campaign at the Rio Olympics.

Miranda became the 17th Brazil captain since former Corinthians boss Tite took charge when he captained the team in the final group match with Serbia.

Marcelo was the skipper against Switzerland with Thiago Silva wearing the armband against Costa Rica and Mexico.

Since Tite took over in 2016, the armband has been worn by at least 17 different players in an unofficial capacity.

Marcelo was given this honour for Brazil's opening World Cup 2018 group game against Switzerland; while Silva wore the armband against Costa Rica for the first time since June 2017.

Miranda - who chose to play in defence after his brother, a promising defender himself, tragically died aged 6 - will be the bearer of leadership tonight against Serbia.

He said: "It is an honour for me to be a captain in a team of many captains. If I will wear the armband in case we reach the final? If I do and we win, I will be very happy. And if I don't and we win, I will also be very happy."
