World Cup 2018: Have The Simpsons predicted the future AGAIN with Mexico and Portugal final?

A 1997 episode titled 'The Cartridge Family' pitted the two sides together to decide who is the greatest nation on earth

PORTUGAL and Mexico supporters are daring to dream of a first World Cup final following a Simpsons episode that aired 21 years ago.

Fans believe the two nations are destined to meet each other in the final on July 15 after they were pitted together in a 1997 episode titled ‘The Cartridge Family’.

Matt Groening’s long-running cartoon has the two side’s competing in a football tournament to determine who is the greatest nation on earth.

The Simpsons are famous for predicting the future – most notably depicting Donald Trump as the President of the United States 18 years ago.

The show also predicted Fox being bought by Disney, as well as the Ebola outbreak, Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl appearance and Sweden narrowly losing to USA in the men’s curling final at the Winter Olympics.

And there is even a reference to Mexico’s party scandal before the World Cup had even started.

Portugal finished second in Group B after drawing 1-1 with Iran, despite taking the lead

Should Mexico top Group H if they avoid defeat against Sweden, they will not be able to face Portugal until the final – adding to the conspiracy.

The Euro 2016 champions could have finished top of Group B had they beat Iran – but they were held to a 1-1 draw after Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty.

Portuguese news outlet Eco said: “Although there is no clear indication of what year the match takes place in, one detail has led viewers to believe that it’s the 2018 World Cup final.

‘There seems to be a reference to the scandal that recently plagued the Mexican team who allegedly partied with several women before the beginning of the tournament.”
