World Cup 2018: Robert Lewandowski’s cheeky tweet to Bayern Munich team-mate James Rodriguez resurfaces after Colombia eliminate Poland

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI has been brutally reminded of a tweet he sent to James Rodriguez last year after his Poland side crashed out of the World Cup.

The Colombian midfielder starred for the South Americans as they beat their European opponents 3-0 to leave the Poles without a point from their opening two games.

Rodriguez chipped in with two assists during the rout, as Yerry Mina, Radamel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado all got on the score sheet.

After the World Cup groups were announced in December, Lewandowski sent his Bayern Munich team-mate a warning ahead of their clash in Russia.

The 29-year-old claimed he would light up the tournament - just as Rodriguez had done four years ago in Brazil when he won the Golden Boot award.

He tweeted: "Hola mi Hermano James Rodriguez, I remember your great goals during the last World Cup. I hope you will remember mine from Russia."

But there was no malice towards the ex-Monaco magician as the two player's embraced each other following the full-time whistle.

Needless to say the message has since went viral, with over 12,000 fans retweeting his statement, while over 34,000 people have liked the comment.

Lewandowski has failed to score at the World Cup thus far, and will face a Japanese side that outclassed Colombia in their final Group H match.

Despite being tipped to reach at least the last-16, Poland have now failed to get out of the group stages since 1986.
