World Cup 2018: Harry Kane scores fifth tournament goal in 152 minutes… 1,292 quicker than Lionel Messi

KANE became the third England player to score three or more goals in a World Cup, after Geoff Hurst in 1966 and Gary Lineker in 1986.

HARRY KANE has confirmed his status as England's chief marksman, dispatching three goals against Panama.

The Three Lions talisman, who now has five goals in 152 World Cup minutes, became the third England player to score three or more goals in a World Cup, after Geoff Hurst in 1966 and Gary Lineker in 1986.

In comparison, Lionel Messi, arguably the world's best player, took far longer to reach five World Cup goals, completing the feat in 1444 minutes.

Kane's, who now leads the World Cup goal-scoring charts, performances have helped England to secure their place in the last 16 with a game remaining in Group G.

The Tottenham star doubled England's lead from the spot after John Stones headed in the opener against Panama.

Jesse Lingard, who was fouled in the box, made it 3-0 with a great strike.

This was the first time England had scored four goals in a World Cup match since the 1966 final against Germany.

Speaking to the BBC after the result, Kane said: "Fantastic, so proud of the boys, just enjoying being here.

"We've been working on set pieces and the way we want to play, and it's all coming together. We have to keep it going, we're not getting ahead of ourselves, with an important game against Belgium.

"You have to believe. There's still a long way to go."
