Argentine cops foil drug gang who hid cocaine in fake World Cup trophies

A DRUG-SMUGGLING gang was busted in Argentina this week after police found cocaine and marijuana hidden inside replica World Cup trophies.

Cops discovered 1.5kg of the drugs hidden inside the gongs, and seized two guns and two cars during the bust.

Six suspects were arrested during raids carried out in Isidro Casanova in La Matanza Partido, Greater Buenos Aires.

The gang had exploited the merchandising boom of the 2018 World Cup, officers say.

The Buenos Aires security minister, Cristian Ritondo, said: "The drug convictions must be strictly complied with, they do not go out of business, those who are imprisoned have to be imprisoned and serve their sentence.

"It is important that they be imprisoned, that they not return to the business."
