World Cup 2018: Tinder sees huge rise in Russia as 2million footie fans look for love during the tournament

The dating app has seen a massive increase in traffic since World Cup supporters arrived in Russia for the tournament

TINDER has seen a huge rise in usage in Russia since the 2018 World Cup started.

Around two million fans have flocked to see football's biggest stars on the grandest stage.

And they are eager to meet local women for dates when there are no (football) matches on.

MTS, one of Russia's major service providers, have recorded over 1,000 per cent increase in the use of the dating app - with St Petersburg, Saransk and Moscow the key hotspots on matchdays.

The latter city will host 12 games across two venues throughout the tournament, including the final at the 78,000-seater Luzhniki Stadium.

And with Tele2 claiming that they have also experienced a rise of 350 per cent on Tinder, it could be a very busy month for people looking for love in Russia.

Tinder, which allows users to find people to go on dates with based on their location, has also claimed one per cent of all traffic through operator MegaFon, as the millions of fans in Russia keep themselves busy around the football.

Local media have reported that Russian women are using the app to set up dates with foreign men to gain friendships, as opposed to a romantic relationship.

But they have were shockingly warned by a senior Russian politician to avoid becoming single mothers to mixed-race babies.

Tamara Pletnyova, chair of the Family, Women and Children Affairs Committee, said last week that "nothing good will come out of... the inappropriate behaviour of Russian women."

She continued: "There will be girls who meet men, and then they will give birth. Maybe they will get married, maybe they won’t. These children will later suffer and have suffered in the Soviet era.

"It is one thing if the parents are of the same race; quite another if they are of different races."
