Barcelona defender admits he is a basket case after his error almost proved costly in a narrow 2-1 win
SAMUEL UMTITI has admitted he is a basket case - by brutally mocking himself on Instagram following his crazy handball against Australia.
The Barcelona defender flung up his arms to literally hand the outsiders a penalty tucked home by Aston Villa's Mile Jedinak.
Antoione Griezmann had dispatched France's historic spot-kick opener shortly before that - with the World Cup's first ever VAR goal after Josh Risdon was ruled to have fouled the Atletico Madrid striker.
And Paul Pogba nabbed a late deflected winner for the much-fancied French.
But Umtiti's intervention was the most bizarre moment - as the 24-year-old lived up to at least part of his surname.
Aaron Mooy floated a free-kick across the area that was perfectly routine until Umtiti's flapping block.
But afterwards Umtiti eclipsed the pasting he got on social media with his own post - a mock-up of himself slam-dunking a basketball into a net in the middle of the penalty area.
He accompanied it with an emoji crying with laughter.

But it might have been tears of a different sort if Pogba had not got lucky 10 minutes from time.
So in the end the only pain Umtiti had to survive was a roasting on social media.
