World Cup 2018: Jose Mourinho and Diego Costa give their verdicts on David De Gea horror gaffe in 3-3 thriller
JOSE MOURINHO and Diego Costa have had their say on David De Gea's horrific gaffe in Spain's 3-3 thriller with Portugal.
The Manchester United No1, 27, allowed a left-footed strike from hat-trick hero Cristiano Ronaldo sneak through his grasp to give Portugal a 2-1 lead in the first-half.
Spain recovered to go 3-2 ahead, before Ronaldo's stunning, last-gasp free-kick salvaged a point.
Following the incredible game, football pundits, managers and players from around the world had their say on the surprising error from De Gea.
The Spaniard's team boss, Mourinho, told Russia Today: "It's my boy, it hurts me to say but he knows it's a bad mistake.
"It's a mistake he doesn't make with us, United - player of the season, fantastic performances. But that happens to the best.
"The good thing with the best is that in the next match he will be there - not afraid, confident to go and ready to help his team."
De Gea's Spanish colleague Costa also had his say on the blunder, adding: "We're not going to doubt him based on on error.
"A family is like that... you have to trust and support each other. Football is like that."
Meanwhile, De Gea's United team-mate Juan Mata lent the No1 his support, tweeting: "You're the best, period."

The long-term Real Madrid target had his own say on the fiasco, claiming: "I was late to put my knee down and the ball was screwed up, but I haven't killed anyone.
"The coach is with me, with all of the team, I'm calm. It's a mistake that can happen, a difficult ball.
"Football is like that, things can happen. They're mistakes, those who put the gloves on and go out on the field know how difficult it is.
"I count on the support of the coach and my teammates to carry on and they show me that on the pitch.
"Football is like this, if you make a mistake you're very bad, if you play well you're very good. You have to get up."
