FULL KIT WHISTLER

VAR officials will wear full referee kits despite watching the games on TV screens in Moscow

Gone are the days where VAR officials can dress down for the job - in Russia they will wear full kit

VAR officials will wear FULL KIT at this summer's World Cup - even though they will be sat in a booth in Moscow.

It is the first time the technology has been used at a World Cup - and seemingly Fifa are taking the job very seriously.

Referees’ chief Massimo Busacca said that "it is the best way to remember you are a referee".

And former World Cup Final referee Pierluigi Collina added: “The VAR officials are sweating, believe me.

"They can’t go dressed like a clerk with a jacket and tie. It is impossible.

"They are doing something that is stressful.”

England's World Cup stars have also been warned by Fifa: Big Brother will be watching you.

Busacca promised that the use of VAR technology in Russia will bring a “zero tolerance” clampdown on foul play.

Swiss former whistler Busacca vowed: “Serious foul play will be spotted.

“That means elbows, deliberate fouls that endanger opponents like Gareth Bale’s against Barcelona this season, incidents in the penalty box.

“In the past it was very difficult for refs to see unsporting behaviour. They weren’t expecting it.

“But 25 cameras will not miss these situations, these red cards. It will be impossible for them to be missed.

“If players understand it, VAR will be, if players understand it, an incredible way of preventing things from happening.”

VAR introduction across Europe has brought a mixed response but former World Cup Final referee Pierluigi Collina suggested VAR would be “a parachute to save the life” of referees who make mistakes.

Busacca added: “We know this cannot be an experiment. We have to be ready and we are positive we are ready.

“We understand situations are very difficult and technology is there to support the referees when it is centimetres and difficult to see things with only two eyes in one second.

“If a clear and obvious mistake is made there will be an intervention. The referee will be asked to explain what he saw and then invited to have another look if the VAR team disagree.

“We know that one mistake can change history and eliminate a team wrongly. People will not accept it any more.

“It will always be down to human interpretation. But I am sure and convinced we will never again see the scandals of the past.

“People can criticise how long it might take. But that is peanuts compared to the correct results of the games.”

Fans inside the World Cup stadiums will be informed of the reasons for over-rules on giant screens, with video clips also shown.
