ITALIAN referee Masimiliano Irrati is one of 13 VAR officials called up to the World Cup in Russia.
And he was also given the honour presiding over the technology during the opening game of biggest tournament and during the final.

Has he officiated at the World Cup before?
This will be the Serie A referee's first involvement in a World Cup.
Although, Irrati has taken charge of European Under-19 and Under-21 qualification games over the last two-seasons.
What has he done so far?
After moving up the Italian domestic ladder, Irrati made his Serie A debut in 2011/12 in a fixture against Bologna and Chievo Verona.
He has since gone on to make over 80 appearances in Italy's premier-division, as well as officiating 12 Coppa Italia ties.
This season, Irrati made his Europa League debut, taking charge of a second-round qualification fixture back in July.
He was involved in an altercation with Gonzalo Higuain in 2016. The player pushed Irrati after being issued a late red-card in Napoli's 3-1 defeat to Udinese.
Most famously, Irrati temporarily suspended a 2016 game between Lazio and Napoli due to racism in the stands.
Therefore those hoping to see a robust response to any incidents in Russia may have preferred him to be the man in the middle.
Has he used VAR before?
VAR has been used in Serie A since the start of the season. During the first half of the campaign, VAR made 60 corrections across the league, with 49 of those being deemed the right decision.
