WILDE TO MILD...
Here’s a mixtape of what some 80s chart-toppers look like today
KIM WILDE, 60
She might have made her name singing about the Kids in America, but she was UK's most-charted British female solo act of the 1980s. Kim still makes music and is a keen gardener – winning a gold medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.
SIMON LE BON, 62
The Wild Boys singer was spotted shopping on holiday in Italy – but he now looks dramatically different from the, er, “stylish” star of four decades ago.
SHEENA EASTON, 62
Scots singer sang about her baby taking the morning train in 1980. Her career is still going full steam ahead — she’s even performing at New York’s State Fair this month.
MARC ALMOND, 64
He took Soft Cell to No1 with a cover of Tainted Love in 1981. He’s now released a staggering 30 albums, the most recent in 2020. He’s not ready to wave goodbye just yet.
BONNIE TYLER, 70
The Welsh singer’s 1983 hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart sold six million copies worldwide. But Bonnie is ever the optimist, titling her 2021 album The Best Is Yet To Come.
MORTEN HARKET, 61
The A-ha singer says he’s embarrassed to still be called a “heart-throb”. But Rita Ora said he looked “fantastic” on The Masked Singer this year.
KATE BUSH, 63
Kate is still Wow-ing her fans at a mere 43 years on from topping the charts for four weeks in 1978 with her debut single, Wuthering Heights, when she was just a 19-year-old.
ADAM ANT, 66
His band had the best-selling UK album of 1981 with Kings Of The Wild Frontier. Are we sure this is what he looks like now? Yep, we’re adamant.
SUSANNA HOFFS, 62
The ageless Bangles singer looks like she hasn’t had to deal with many Manic Mondays since she and the band released the hit — written by Prince — 35 years ago.
GARY NUMAN, 63
IT’S 42 years since he told the world how safe he felt in his car . . . in his debut single, Cars. He is still essentially rocking the same cyberpunk look he had in the 80s.
