LISA Faulkner had Chris Evans listeners in floods of tears after admitting she's pleased her IVF treatment failed.

She made the shock confession on Chris Evans' Virgin Radio breakfast show - and explained the reason she was please was because it led to her adopting her daughter.

Lisa, 47, adopted Billie when she was 18 months old in 2008, after struggling to conceive with her ex-husband, actor Chris Coghill.

The couple did manage to get pregnant, but tragically, Lisa suffered an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in one of her fallopian tubes being removed and thus reducing her chance of being able to conceive.

She admitted the harrowing experience "started an obsession" in trying to get pregnant.

"My whole world got smaller and smaller and was just about how I was going to have a baby, and why wasn't it working? We tried all IVF, we had an amazing doctor who eventually said, 'I can't do the magic, I'm letting you go," she told the host.

"That was the door that shut - I was on my knees saying, 'I don't know what to do now?"

The actress - who is engaged to chef John Torode, after meeting when she was a contestant on Celebrity MasterChef in 2010 - then said she had "felt like I'm not good enough" for not being able to have a baby.

She added: "It's a blow, having to tell people that it didn't work. And you're pumped on hormones that makes you lose grip on reality. You go crazy."

Chris then read out a series of messages sent in by listeners who said they were in floods of tears listening to Lisa's story.

One said: "The shame associated with not being able to having a baby is huge - thanks for talking about it and bringing it out of the shadows."

Other tweets read: "Serious mascara warning. What a wonderful interview with Lisa Faulkner - inspiring, amazing, giving hope to many."

Another echoed: "Just listened to Lisa Faulkner and you guys. Absolute wreck of a man. We have a 17 month old IVF miracle. All of that emotion getting there summed up so accurately by you all. Thanks so much. About to go into a meeting with red eyes. Don't care!"

Chris understood Lisa's experience - as he and wife Natasha have three children who were conceived through IVF after the pro golfer suffered an ectopic pregnancy in 2010.

They welcomed their twins Boo and Woody last September, and also their four-year-old son, Eli, after Natasha, a former professional golfer, suffered an ectopic pregnancy in 2010.

Evans wrote after the birth of the twins: "Thank you so much to the people who made it possible. We are eternally grateful. You make dreams come true.

"My wife and I couldn’t be more thrilled . . . Like a lot of couples, becoming pregnant this time was not easy and to the extent that it was beginning to feel like it may never happen."
