Aston Villa one of five Championship clubs tracking in-form Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

ASTON VILLA are reportedly one of five Championship clubs hot on the trail of in-form Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian striker, 21, went goalless for three games after his June move but has since bagged eight in seven for the Gers.

And Morelos’ exploits have caught the eye of the Villans, after the forward proved he could do the business in British football.

Rangers fans were worried their signing could not carry over his form from HJK Helsinki, where he scored 46 times in 62 appearances.

But his recent form has seen agent Jonne Lindblom compare the Colombia Under-20s ace to Barcelona superstar Luis Suarez.

He told the : “He is hot right now.

“It’s quite funny because obviously Rangers didn’t start the season well and I still don’t think they are playing at the level they can play. They were saying Alfredo is not good enough for Rangers.

“But, personally, I never had any doubts. I have been watching him play for two and half years, week in week out and I know what he is capable of.

“I don’t have any targets for how many goals he should score this season. But if he keeps scoring similar numbers to what he is doing now then anything is possible.

“He’s a brilliant finisher, he’s strong, he’s technical, he works hard and he’s improving all the time. That’s why I expect he’ll go even further than Rangers.

“In terms of his style of play he reminds me a bit of Luis Suarez.

“Obviously only one of them is a world class player but, in terms of how he controls the ball, how he shoots in really small spaces without needing a lot of time. Once he gets the ball at his feet inside the box he will shoot and usually he scores.”

Villa have got off to a slow start this season and sit 13th in the Championship table.

They splashed out £14million on Scott Hogan in January but the ex-Brentford star is yet to net in the league this campaign.
