DVLA reveals full list of banned registration plates for 2022
THE most recent list of car registration plates deemed too rude for motorists' eyes has been revealed.
Twice every year, the DVLA is forced to blacklist hundreds of combinations ahead of new registrations being released in March and September.
Anything that could be deemed slightly offensive features on the list, preventing cheeky motorists from causing a stir on Scotland's roads.
New '22 plates were released on March 1, and already a total of 343 combinations have been banned... including a popular Scots word.
FA22 NNY and *F22 KER are both on the x-rated list, which includes swear words, sex acts and racist slurs along with childish jeers and crude nicknames.
Some of the worst using March's numbers include BA22 TRD, A22 HLE, BJ22 GAL and BT22 CHY.
Also removed from use this year were *M22 FKR, TU22 URD, S22 LAG, BE22 END, BU22 SHT and DR22 NK*.
Any plates that feature SEX, BUM or ASS at the end are automatically excluded every year.
Some of these also included VA22 GNA, PO22 RNO, BU22 GER and BJ22 FAB.
The DVLA also canned any coronavirus related number plates, like CO22 RNA, CO22 ONA and CO22 VD*.
Other set four letter and five letter combos are also banned, such as TO** SER, SL** UTS and BO** MBS.

Others were BO22 LOX, UP22 OFF and AT22 SSR.
Some plates were also banned because they mentioned the devil, hell, war and people like Adolf Hitler.
Some of these were SA22TEN, AH22 TLR, YE22 WAR and GO22 HLL.
The full list contained slurs that were too offensive to republish.
The banned list isn't always able to capture every dodgy plate, with some occasionally slipping through the net and finding their way into circulation.
The DVLA also removes certain plates that might prove popular among collectors, and save them for auction.
A DVLA spokesperson said: “The vast majority of registration numbers are made available but we hold back any combinations that may cause offence, embarrassment or are in poor taste.”
