LOUIS SMITH'S "god awful" man bun has been torn to bits by Rio Olympics viewers.

The Team GB gymnast - who could win gold tonight - sent social media into a frenzy when he unveiled the do recently.

And it seems like he has failed to win round any admirers with his controversial barnet.

One Twitter user said they used to "love" the former boyfriend of The Only Way is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh but now "hates him".

Another ordered the ex-Strictly Come Dancing star to lose the bun while a fellow user said they thought they would never see an "ugly" man bun... until seeing Louis'.

The Great Britain star bizarrely revealed he had become addicted to listening to the Jeremy Vine Show in his preparations for Rio.

Smith clinched Olympic pommel silver at London 2012 – Britain’s highest achievement in the sport.

He then went into semi-retirement and team-mate Max Whitlock – who had once looked up to him and as a teenager finished third in London – overtook him to be crowned Britain’s first male world champion in gymnastics.
