Who is Laura Main and who does she play in Call the Midwife?
Laura Main, 39, is a Scottish actress who appears in Call the Midwife and won the 2015 Children in Need Strictly Come Dancing special alongside dancer Brendan Cole.
Laura plays Shelagh Turner in Call the Midwife.
Shelagh, formerly known as Sister Bernadette, has been on the show since series one.
She is a nun and midwife with an uncomplicated approach to her work and is friendly with her younger colleagues.
In Series two, Sister Bernadette (as she was known) questioned her chosen vocation and after recovering from tuberculosis, decided to leave the order of St Raymond Nonnatus in order to marry Dr Turner (Stephen McGann).
In series three, Shelagh was diagnosed as infertile and went on to adopt a daughter, baby Angela, with Dr Turner at the end of the series.
In series four Shelagh becomes Dr Turner’s receptionist.
