MARTIN Lewis was left mortified on ITV on Thursday after needing to cough during a special episode that focused on coronavirus.

The money guru was hosting a live one-off special of his money show, that focused on how the current worldwide pandemic could affect the British public's finance.

But he was left red-faced when he began told cameras that he needed to cough, one of the main symptoms of COVID-19.'

"It would be less embarrassing to fart," he joked after he was able to recover.

The UK government are urging people who have coronavirus symptoms to stay at home for seven days to prevent the spread of the deadly bug.

They say this is essential during the coronavirus pandemic in protecting others - and limiting the number of those infected.

It comes as the number of UK coronavirus cases has risen to 2,626 - up 676 people in the last 24 hours - and the death toll stands at 108.

As the virus is new experts are still working to understand it but the most common symptoms of coronavirus infection usually include:

  • A dry cough
  • A high temperature
  • Shortness of breath

TV shows from Call The Midwife to Saturday Night Takeaway and the British soaps have all been affected, with filming postponed and shut down for many productions.

Cannes film festival, Coachella and Glastonbury music festivals and Austin's South by South West have all been cancelled for 2020.
