Watchmen fans go wild as Ozymandias defeats Game Warden using heroic nod to comics

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD FOR FINAL EPISODE OF WATCHMEN SEASON ONE.

WATCHMEN fans were left over the moon to see the new TV show make a heroic nod to the Alan Moore comics as Jeremy Irons' Ozymandias appeared to catch a bullet to escape death.

The final episode of the first acclaimed series saw Ozymandias, also known as Adrian Veidt, attempt to escape the prison of Europa via Lady Trieu's spaceship. However, despite attempts by the Game Warden to make him stop, the warden ultimately decides to shoot Ozymandias, stopping him in his tracks.

Or so he thinks, because as the Warden gets closer to him, Ozymandias delivers a powerful kick, revealing he had caught the bullet in his hand.

This trick of his was revealed in the final issue of Moore and Dave Gibbons’ comic series.

Based in an alternate version of 2019 without smartphones or the internet, Watchmen takes place over thirty years since the original, legendary graphic novel by Moore and Gibbons.

The show is a "remixed" version of the source material, according to showrunner Damon Lindelof.

In an Instagram post, the Lost writer explained: "Those original twelve issues are our Old Testament.

"When the New Testament came along it did not erase what came before it. Creation. The Garden of Eden. Abraham and Isaac. The Flood. It all happened.

"And so it will be with Watchmen.

"The Comedian died. Dan and Laurie fell in love. Ozymandias saved the world and Dr Manhattan left it just after blowing Rorschach to pieces in the bitter cold of Antarctica."

In typical Watchmen style, the plot involves a vast conspiracy centred around mentally unstable caped crusaders, only the villains are white supremacist terrorist group the Seventh Cavalry who wear Rorschach masks as tribute to the character murdered at the end of the graphic novel's story.

A masked police detective called Angela Abar (played by Regina King) is hunting down the baddies but nothing is as simple as it seems.
