Netflix shares first look at tense new cult thriller Messiah – tracking ‘con artist’ performing baffling ‘miracles’

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for their new cult thriller Messiah.

The story follows the intriguing premise of a man claiming to be God's son carrying out what some call "miracles" and others believe to be disruption.

He soon catches the eye of a CIA officer who has to "unravel the mystery of whether he really is a divine entity or a deceptive con artist capable of dismantling the world’s geopolitical order".

Colour us intrigued.

True Detective and Mission: Impossible star Michelle Monaghan stars as Eva Geller, the agent tasked with discovering the truth.

London Has Fallen star Mehdi Dehbi will take on the unknown man.

The series will be told from multiple perspectives interwoven throughout "including that of an Israeli intelligence officer (Tomer Sisley), a Texas preacher (John Ortiz) and his daughter (Stefania LaVie Owen), a Palestinian refugee (Sayyid El Alami) and the journalist (Jane Adams) who covers the story".

Netflix has called the show "a provocative and suspenseful thriller that explores the power of influence and belief in the social media age".

The online streaming giant has a host of brand new series coming to the platform in the New Year.

Anne With An E will return for its third and final season on January 3 while the first season of RuPaul's comedy AJ and the Queen will hit on January 10.
