LOVE Island viewers branded Michael 'childish' last night when he laughed after being told he faced the boot from the island - despite criticising his ex Amber for laughing during awkward situations.
The show's shock twist saw host Caroline Flack reveal that either he or Joanna will get the boot, but Michael, 27, failed to keep a straight face throughout the episode's tense cliffhanger.
The fact that the firefighter previously labelled Amber as 'childish' for the same behaviour wasn't lost on fans, who took to Twitter to call him out- and poke fun at the way the Liverpudlian lad talks.
"The audacity of Michael to laugh when he's been put on the recoupling spot when he went OOOOON about Amber laughing and thereby "being chaldish" is actually ridiculous," vented one.
Another wrote: "Michael Laughing?!!?! In this situation?!?... CHALDISH!!!"
Meanwhile a third pointed out: "Michael laughing/smiling his way through the votes because he feels awkward but when Amber does it it’s CHALDISH and IMMACHURE #loveisland"
The final ten minutes of last night's episode was packed with twist after twist as Caroline arrived while the Islanders were partying at the Island Club.
She revealed that the public had been voting for their favourite couples and the two pairs with the lowest votes faced the chop.
After it was revealed that Anna and Jordan and Michael and Joanna were the bottom two couples, another twist saw their islanders choosing which of them to save.
Maura and Chris saved Anna and Jordan, as did Amber and Ovie.
Meanwhile Curtis and Francesca and Belle and Anton saved Michael and Joanna, leaving the deciding vote to Molly-Mae and Tommy.
When Tommy and Molly-Mae chose to save Anna and Jordan, it appeared as if both Michael and Joanna were heading home.
But in yet another twist, Caroline announced only one of them would be sent packing.
She revealed: "Joanna and Michael, you haven't been saved by either the public or your fellow islanders, therefore you cannot stay on Love Island as couple. One of you must now leave the island."

And while Michael seemed to find the whole thing amusing, fans were up in arms about having to wait until tonight's episode to learn the outcome.
Tweeted one fan: "Knew there was a twist in tonight's dumping but leaving it on such a cliffhanger has ruined me."
