Love Island winner Amber Gill says she hasn’t spoken to Greg since he dumped her by text but she’s happy being single
LOVE Island winner Amber Gill has told how her sensational success on the hit ITV2 show has now made her a millionaire.
The stunning 22-year-old clinched the crown this summer when she and love match Greg O’Shea, 24, became king and queen of the villa.
But today she opens up for the first time about her split from Greg — who dumped her by text just five weeks after the show ended — saying it left her in a bit of a “critical situation”.
Now she has moved on and will be happy to find a new man . . . as soon as she stops being so busy.
Amber said: “I always told my family I’d be a millionaire and now I am.
“People always say ‘wow’ when I walk in a room. When I go to nightclubs now everyone knows who I am. I forget that I’m famous all the time.”
And on her split from Greg, she said: “I’ve not spoken to him, not heard anything from him.
"I moved on from him fairly quickly and I just think it was a bit of a critical situation, but you’ve got to move past it.
“Right now, I’ve got great opportunities and I’m glad that I’m single and I can just focus on everything that I’m doing and really enjoy everything I’m doing at the minute.”
Amber soared to fame on the reality show, cuddling up to Greg and clinching her £25,000 share of the prize in August.
The 5ft 4in model has signed a £1million deal to become the face of sassy women’s clothing brand MissPap.
She insists she is not too down after ending things with Greg, who claimed the reason for their split was because of the distance between her home in Newcastle and his in Ireland.
Greg, who is now dating Paris-based heptathlete Emma Canning, was cagey about the pair’s split last year, mysteriously saying: “I’m not going to badmouth Amber.
“I can be happy with myself that I know the truth and I know what’s happened.”
One thing is for sure — Amber is happy being single now.
The former beauty therapist, from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, said: “I’m not seeing anyone at the minute and I’m not planning to.
“I don’t have a spare minute and, to be honest, if I do I either want to be by myself or with my dog. And I haven’t had any offers anyway.
“My ideal man would be somebody who makes me laugh, somebody who is sincere and somebody who doesn’t mind being with somebody that is quite successful in what they do.”
Her celebrity status has come about so rapidly that she is still to get used to being famous.
Amber said: “People come up to me all the time asking for selfies, and I’m like, ‘Why are they doing that?’
“I totally forget half the time but I’m always happy to pose for pictures because it’s those people who put me where I am.
“So I’m happy to have a chat, have some fun and just be normal with people. I’m not going to change who I am.”
After briefly flat-sharing in London with former Love Island best friend Anna Vakili, home today for Amber is a swanky new ultra-modern apartment in London, where she can reflect on her new-found fame and fortune.
She is also hosting new podcast Reality Bites, with Anna and their former housemate Yewande Biala, ahead of the new winter series of Love Island, which starts next month.
She said: “We discuss everything, girl stuff, fame, advice, reality shows, relationships. It’s great.”
And although Amber is still in touch with fellow Islanders such as Maura Higgins, soon to be seen on ITV reality show Dancing On Ice, she revealed there won’t be a reunion any time soon.
She said: “I think holding a Christmas Love Island party might be a hard one to organise because there are different people that don’t like to hang out with the same few people that we do.
“It would be hard to get everybody in the same room together.”
To add to her well-chronicled man troubles, Amber has also had to deal with rumours of a feud with Maura over which one of them would be in the up-coming series of Dancing On Ice.
With Maura now named as the one who will be geting her skates on, Amber said: “It’s not something I originally set my sights on but I did go along to see what the craic is.
“People said she stole the role from me but it wasn’t like that. I did go in to talk to the producers and to find out more about the show. It is a massive commitment.
“It’s 30 or 35 hours a week training, which is like a full-time job, and I’ve got a lot of other stuff going on right now too.
“It was never the case that I was offered it, then they changed their minds and gave it to Maura.
"I never actually had it, and even if I had been offered it I think I would have turned it down as it’s just too big a commitment for me at this point in my career.”
Despite having a whopping 2.8million Instagram followers, Amber has also had to deal with the darker side of social media.
She said: “Sadly, I get it all the time. I’ve had people saying they think I’m ugly or they want me dead and I’m like, ‘So you really want us to die? That’s great. Wow!’
“I don’t really understand why anyone in their right mind would ever say that to somebody.
“What must be wrong in your life for you to comment that on someone’s picture? But to be honest, it doesn’t really affect me that much.
“Some people are a bit more sensitive than me and I don’t know if that makes me weird but I just don’t let it get to me.
“I’m just the kind of person that takes everything in their stride.”
With a million-pound fashion contract under her belt, a successful podcast and ambitions to nudge Holly and Phil off the This Morning sofa, Amber looks to have a bright future.
She said: “I love doing the podcast, I love radio, I love music and I’d love to keep doing TV, so we’ll see what happens.

“Maybe when Holly and Phil call it a day I might come in. And as for off-screen, who knows?
“Maybe I’ll have a partner by the time I’m 30 and maybe I’ll have some children.
“I’m not sure. I’ll definitely have several dogs though, that’s for sure.”
