Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge spoofs Love Island in savagely rude parody
FLEABAG star Phoebe Waller-Bridge took aim at Love Island in a hilariously rude parody as she appeared alongside Taylor Swift on Saturday Night Live.
The 34-year-old actress, fresh from winning four Emmys for her dark comedy, transformed into an orange-faced Islander in a black wig and prosthetic nose.
In her best Essex accent, she became paediatric nurse Bella-Rosa, who drawled: "My dad’s a boxer and my mum’s a pub.
"Just got my lips done - I asked the doctor for an allergic reaction."
Another 'contestant' in the sketch adopted a very dodgy British accent, saying: "I'm a personal trainer and I'm just looking for a lady I can cheat on for the rest of my life."
The voiceover raved: "Watch the hottest people from the worst towns immediately couple up with someone based on nothing."
In a mock recoupling, Phoebe's character said: "I want to couple up with someone who's exactly my type on paper. He's got tattoos, he's got really great banter, he's proper fit - but at the same time, I'd go with anyone."
She then points at Amari and goes: "So you."
He replies: "Hi" only for her to giggle: "Well, you've got great chat."
The voiceover continues: "You've heard an English accent. You've heard an Irish accent. Now hear all the little weirdies in between."
A string of awful Liverpool and Scottish accents were then attempted on the hit US show, as the narrator said: "They don't even understand each other."
Then, as a contestant face-planted the floor and flashed their privates at the camera, it continued: "Tune in as they face challenges like getting up from a beanbag.
"You will watch 50 hours of this. You think you won't, but you will."
Two contestants are then seen having sex in a recreation of the ITV hit's famous night-vision cameras.
Later, viewers saw a contestant holding up a cloth caked in make-up, saying: "You know, I put so much bronzer on I think I might be doing brownface. Is this a hate crime?"
As the sketch draws to a close, Phobe's dumped contestant said: "I'm absolutely gutted."
She then checked her phone and squawked: "Are you joking? 1.2 million Instagram followers.
"Well I don't have to be a stupid paedatric nurse any more. Ker-ching!"
The British version of Love Island is currently airing in the US on streaming service Hulu.
Elsewhere on the sketch show, Phoebe said: "I’m not a sex addict because I wrote Fleabag – but I did write Killing Eve because I’m a psychopath.
“Back in the day, horny women were to be feared – now they’re given Emmys.”
She and 'Hot Priest' Andrew Scott celebrated the show's remarkable haul of the TV awards in LA last month.
