Set in the future, the play is imagined during Prince Charles's reign following the death of The Queen.

The BBC adaptation is set to be directed by Olivier Award-winner and Tony Award nominee Rupert Goold, also the director of the play.

The focus sits on a political crisis that The King, himself, is at the centre of.

The plot focuses on the implications of the crisis on King Charles III and, of course, the Royal Family.

Filming has now started in Yorkshire.

She has told the BBC, “I’m really excited to come on board King Charles III - Mike Bartlett and Rupert Goold are two brilliant creatives. It’s such a unique project, to be both modern and rich in verse and to play someone who is real but yet totally re-imagined for this story, is an exciting prospect for an actor. Kate Middleton is a really interesting woman, particularly within the context of this play, and it is a challenge I am really looking forward to.”
