CILLA Battersby-Brown could make a shock return to the Coronation Street cobbles, according to actress Wendi Peters.

Appearing on today's This Morning, Wendi, 49, hinted that the feisty matriarch might come back to the cobbles to keep an eye on her son Chesney.

When Phillip Schofield quizzed Wendi on whether Cilla could return to Corrie, she replied: "No plans, but who knows? Chesney's still there so..."

Cilla, who's also mum to Fiz and Billy Brown, first left the show back in 2007 before briefly returning to reconcile with her kids in 2014.

These days, Wendi has moved on to pastures new and was on the morning show to promote her new play Quartet.

Starring alongside Only Fools And Horses' Sue Holderness, Hollyoaks star Jeff Rawle and EastEnders star Paul Nicholas, Wendi plays an ageing opera singer.

The play is based on the 2012 film of the same name which starred Maggie Smith, Billy Connelly, Pauline Collins and Michael Gambon.

But the play will feature a different ending to the film.

Meanwhile Jeff, who played serial killer Silas on Hollyoaks didn't rule out returning to the Channel Four soap.

He said: "I love the idea of the character permanently doing something off stage."
