An unnamed relative told the that her infection was so grave that the family believed Madonna might not survive.

";For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst," the relative said.

"Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation."

Madonna had reportedly been working around the clock, pulling 12-hour days for weeks, in preparation for her upcoming tour.

Her relative said that the health scare has brought the family together and served as a wake up call for the singer.

"She has not been living as healthy a life as she should be for her age, and she has been wearing herself thin over the past couple of months," they said.

"She thinks that she is still young when, in fact, she is not. She also believes that she is invincible."

TOUR POSTPONED

Madonna's manager Guy Oseary said that he expects her to make a "full recovery" but that she's had to pause all commitments for the time being.

Although her health is improving, he said that Madonna is still receiving medical care.

Her daughter Lourdes Leon, one of the pop star's six children, has reportedly been by her side throughout the health crisis.

Madonna's sons Rocco Ritchie, 22, and David Banda, 17, were photographed on Wednesday looking nervous in New York City, where the singer is hospitalized.

Her tour was supposed to begin in Vancouver, Canada, on July 15, but has now been postponed.

"We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows," Oseary said.

The tour was supposed to honor the 40th anniversary of Madonna beginning her music career.

Her last tour ran from September 2019 to March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began.
