Perhaps nothing could top the uproar over her dress in 2022.

Kim’s look was one of the most talked about last year, as she donned the historic $5million gown Marilyn Monroe wore while singing the happy birthday song to President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

Kim went all out for the evening, bleaching her dark locks blonde and “losing 16 pounds” in three weeks to fit into the slinky number.

Monroe fans felt Kim shouldn’t have worn the dress and slammed her.

Kim borrowed the dress from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, which shut down rumors that she damaged it after a photograph emerged online.

She was guided up the famed steps at the Metropolitan Museum of Art by her then-boyfriend, Pete Davidson, 29.

Kim, who is now single, had previously made an impression at the A-list event, first attending in 2013 as her ex-husband Kanye West’s plus-one guest.

She tweeted in 2019 about the first time she attended almost 10 years ago: “I didn’t know anyone [and] I’m sure no one wanted me there.”

Now, everyone is waiting to see what she’ll wear next. Check out her most controversial Met outfits below.

FAMILY AFFAIR

The entire Kardashian-Jenner clan made their Met Gala debut last year, with the addition of Kourtney and Khloé.

Khloé, 38, previously did not score an invite because Vogue editor and Met Gala chairwoman Anna Wintour reportedly labeled her as “too C-list” for the prestigious event.

Sources revealed that the Good American founder was not invited to the soirée, as she could not compete with modeling, film, and music stars.

But she later said on the family’s Hulu show that she was not interested in attending: “I’m not big on red carpets. I think I’ve made that very clear.”

Upon finally accepting an invite, Khloé rocked a beaded, gold Moschino dress, which fans criticized as “boring” for the Gilded Glamour theme.

BACK IN BLACK

Kim covered her face and body in an all-black ensemble

After announcing their divorce, she and rapper Kanye West appeared at the 2021 Met Gala both wearing matching masks.

The pair had been known to match in all-designer looks.

However, fans were shocked when the pair continued to match even after the rapper’s cheating confession.

Kim rocked an all-black leather look on the Met Gala red carpet. Her look came complete with a face mask that covered her whole face and head, with just her hair peeping out through a hole in the back.

Kim’s outfit was designed by Kardashian-favorite luxury designer Balenciaga.

Balenciaga Creative Director Demna Gvasalia was seen alongside Kim in a full-black ensemble with a matching mask that hid his entire face.

SLIPPERY WHEN WET

Kim’s camp look

While there was no Gala in 2020, 2019 was a huge year, with the theme Camp: Notes on Fashion.

The theme fired up many history-making looks.

Kim opted for a now-famed skin-tight dress designed to appear as if she had just stepped out of the ocean, complete with a circus-evoking, on-theme corset.

Designer Thierry Mugler hadn’t designed a collection of his own since 2003, and he stepped out of retirement to create the gown for the reality star – and clearly, she was oceans away from her 2013 debut.

“He envisioned me as this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping,” Kim said when interviewed by Vogue on the Met red carpet.

HEAVEN SENT

Kim walked the 2018 red carpet alone wearing a skin-tight gold Versace dress, with large embellished crucifixes, and a zip going down the back that accentuated her curves.

The reality star embraced the rather niche theme Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

The gown clung to her famous figure, and Kim was happy to show it off from all angles as she posed in front of the awaiting photographers.

She wore her hair in a sleek updo and opted for a bold smoky eye to compete the sexy look.

SIMPLY KIM

Kim went for a simple look in 2017

Kim showed up to the 2017 Met Gala dressed in a surprisingly simple gown, forgoing any other accessories, perhaps for a traumatic reason.

Her stark white minimalist look designed by Vivienne Westwood, was simple and elegant and came months after the unspeakable 2016 Paris robbery.

Kim was held at gunpoint in a France hotel, where she had $7.8M dollars in jewelry stolen from her.

“I never thought I’d need security staying outside my door, even though I have a lot of jewelry,” Kim once said on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

“If you think about it, I should have had security outside my door 24/7 when I’m traveling. And I didn’t. Now I have several just so I can be able to sleep at night,” she said.

Kim was pregnant when she attended her first Met Gala

Kim’s first trip to the Met Gala came in 2013 and ended with her in tears.

The then-globally rising reality star welcomed North, now nine, one month later, and flaunted her huge baby bump in a skin-tight floral number.

However, the outfit quickly became a meme as fans compared the look to a “grandmother’s couch.”

Years later, Kim reflected on the traumatic experience on ,

“Year 1 – Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy – I was Kanye’s plus one & so nervous! I didn’t know anyone & I’m sure no one wanted me there lol.”

“I did my own lipstick & the color is so off. I went home & cried after of insecurity.

“But this is one of my fave looks now.”
