Carter drowned in his bathtub after taking alprazolam, a generic version of Xanax, and inhaling compressed difluoroethane, a propellant used in cans of compressed air, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

The former child star became "incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects" of the drugs, resulting in him slipping underneath the water and drowning, the report, which was first obtained by , revealed.

His death was ruled accidental.

Police said that prescription pills and cans of compressed air were found in his home at the time of his death in November.

The autopsy results gave Carter's fiancée Melanie Martin little comfort.

“I am not getting the closure I need because I don’t buy it," Martin told The U.S. Sun.

"He was found with clothing on, the coroner told me, how would he have drowned with clothing on.

"I still have a lot more questions I would like answered regarding the police investigation.”

Melanie, 35, previously said that she believed drugs may have been involved in his death.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, Melanie said Carter had been clean for the majority of their three-year on/off relationship until "bad people from his past" reemerged trying to relaunch his career.

'STRANGE' BEHAVIOR

Martin added that Carter was acting strange before his death and that "nothing of the last few days of his life added up to a normal pattern."

While Martin wasn't at the house with him, she asked the housekeeper to update her on everything Carter was doing, which she agreed to.

The fiancée explained: "On the Tuesday before his death, I called a welfare check on Aaron when he was driving the RV."

Cops pulled Carter over that day and conducted field sobriety tests,  reported at the time.

But they found that Carter wasn't under the influence of any substances. Martin said police determined "he was OK to drive."

"Due to the media attention it caused, Aaron felt I embarrassed him, so we decided to take a break from each other for a couple of days," Martin said.

"I went with our son to stay at my mother's house."

Martin admitted that she was "super worried that Aaron would relapse again, since he had a couple of times in recent months."

She noted that "he signed up for outpatient rehab, and scheduled an appointment for Friday, November 4."

Carter's body was found the following day and it's unclear if he attended the appointment.

CHILD STAR

Carter rose to fame in the late 1990s as a pop singer, opening for the Backstreet Boys in Berlin at the age of nine.

He was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.

The performance led to a record deal, and during the fall of 1997, he released his first single, Crush on You, off his self-titled debut album.

During the early 2000s, he turned to acting, where his stardom continued to ascend, this time as a teen heartthrob, making guest appearances in several Channel and Nickelodeon shows.

However, after a brief appearance on reality TV and Dancing with the Stars, his music career progressed, transitioning from pop to rap.

Nonetheless, Carter struggled with substance abuse and mental health.

In 2017, Carter went on the show and opened up about all the pills he was taking.

By then, Carter was malnourished and underweight and admitted himself to a drug rehabilitation program.

In a second appearance on The Doctors in 2019, the I'm All About You singer disclosed that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

SAD DISCOVERY

Carter's housekeeper found his body inside his home during the early hours of November 5, 2022.

believed that Carter's body was in the tub for a long time due to the smell of decomposition and unnatural color that the water had turned, reported at the time.

Carter leaves behind his fiancée, Melanie, and their son, Prince.

Just hours after his death, Martin was pictured outside of Carter's home and sobbed as friends consoled her.

In one picture, she can be seen burying her head in her hands as she broke down in tears.

In the months after his death, Carter's mom Jane said that she believed her son was murdered.
