ICONIC actor Kevin Conroy, who famously voiced the animated version of DC Comics superhero Batman throughout the 90s, has died at the age of 66 following a short battle with cancer.
Conroy's death was announced on Friday by his fellow co-star Diane Pershing, who voiced DC villain Poison Ivy in : The Animated Series.
"Very sad news: our beloved voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, died yesterday [Thursday]," Pershing wrote, sharing several photos of Conroy and several other DC voice actors.
"He's been ill for a while but he really put in a lot of time at the cons, to the joy of all of his fans. He will be sorely missed not just by the cast of the series but by his legion of fans all over the world.
"Below are pictures of Kevin with Loren Lester who plays Robin another with me and and Tara Strong who is in the later episodes of Batman cartoons.
"And then finally, one of Kevin and me in front of the huge audiences we used to get when we did our panels. RIP, friend.😢"
Mark Hamill, who starred as The Joker opposite Conroy in several Batman shows, called his co-star one of his "favorite people on the planet" in a statement to .
"Kevin was perfection. He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother," Hamill told THR.
"He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.”
DC Comics paid tribute to the Batman legend in a statement, saying: "DC is deeply saddened at the passing of Kevin Conroy, a legendary actor and the voice of Batman for multiple generations.

Conroy first voiced Bruce Wayne and his dark alter-ego Warner Bros 1992 television series Batman: The Animated Series.
Due to the popularity of his performance as Batman, Conroy continued to voice The Dark Knight in several other animated shows, movies and video games throughout the 90s.
Conroy's Batman credits included Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Justice League. Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Batman and Harley Quinn, and Justice League vs. the Fatal Five, among others.
He voiced Bruce Wayne in the video games Arkham Knight and Arkham City.
Conroy most recently appeared as the Gotham vigilante in 2019 in the CW's Batwoman series.
He was set to play Thomas Wayne, Bruce's father, in the upcoming TV series Batman: Caped Crusader, which is slated for a 2023 premiere.
Conroy is survived by his husband, Vaughn C. Williams, sister Trisha Conroy, and brother Tom Conroy.
