On Monday's episode of the Kelly Clarkson Show, the host sat down with fellow musicians The Chicks, to discuss the group's upcoming tour.

During the interview, Kelly asked the Chicks, Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer, about their songwriting craft and "how hard is [it] to write so openly and honest while navigating [their] children" and those close to them.

Emily responded, "There's no way around it. When you write falsely it doesn't work. You have to be real."

She continues, "The more specific you are the more it's universal to other people."

Kelly then candidly states, "We all went through divorces. How did you each find strength?"

The Voice coach quickly adds, "and not just music. I think it's therapeutic but like your female friendships. I feel like that has really helped me".

Martie replies, "I remember when [Natalie] first came down to the studio and said 'Guys I just want to tell you I'm getting a divorce'"

Natalie jokes, "Which time was this?", as the other three laugh.

"The first one," chuckles Martie as she then continues, "I remember thinking, I'm getting a divorce, now she says she's getting a divorce, now I can't say I'm getting a divorce."

Natalie chimes in, "So I'm like guys I'm getting a divorce and Martie's like 'I'm having a horrible marriage.'"

The lead singer then lovingly adds, "We were divorce buddies."

LEAVING DIXIE BEHIND

In 2020, the Dixie Chicks decided to change the name of their band to The Chicks.

The longtime musicians have also made sure to showcase their latest band name on the cover of their album Gaslighter.

Their  offered a few words referring to the decision.

It read: “We want to meet this moment.”

Amidst the Black Lives Matter movement, the band faced a ton of pressure to alter its name.

KELLY'S DIVORCE

filed for divorce in Los Angeles on June 4, 2020, citing "irreconcilable differences" - and the proceedings have been testy.

During the nasty split, the talk show host won custody of their two children.

Clarkson met her music manager and ex-husband backstage at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2006.

The pair got engaged in December 2012 and married a year later at a luxury estate in Tennessee.

On March 8, 2022, it was reported that Clarkson and Blackstock reached a divorce settlement, which included a custody and support arrangement between the two.

LIFE IN THE DUMPSTER

Clarkson admitted she "didn't see" her divorce coming on her show's 2020 season premiere.

"[It] has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn't see anything coming that came."

"But what I'm dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart. It involves a lot of little hearts."

"You know, we have four kids and divorce is never easy, and we're both from divorced families, so we know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts."

Kelly also got candid about her divorce on  with Willie Geist, claiming that her life was a "dumpster."

The Miss Independent singer said: "I mean, it's no secret. My life has been a little bit of a dumpster.

“Personally, it's been a little hard the last couple [of] months.”

"I've been talking to friends that have been through a divorce.

"I don't know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved."

SUPPORTING BRANDON

Kelly's ex Brandon Blackstock demanded $5.2 MILLION a year in spousal support.

A source close to the former couple told  that Brandon was seeking $436,000 in monthly spousal and child support.

The source said, "Brandon's been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees.

"Kelly's offered to pay for all the kids' expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month."
