Who is Nichelle Nichols?
Born December 28, 1932, Nichelle Nichols, 89, is known as an American actress and singer.
She first rose to fame in the late 1960s by portraying the role of Nyota Uhura in Star Trek: The Original Series and other related films.
At the time, her role was ground-breaking for African American female characters as they were not often represented on American television.
Nichols then went on to star in other productions including Are We There Yet?, Snow Dogs, and Surge of Dawn.

She also lent her voice to several TV shows including Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Futurama, and The Simpsons.
Where is Nichelle Nichols now?
Nichols might be getting older, but that has not stopped her from appearing in other projects.
She has continued acting and is scheduled to star in four upcoming movies, according to her .
Outside of her career, she has become the center of another high-profile conservatorship with many fans claiming she is of sound mind and can make decisions on her own, despite a dementia diagnosis.

Since 2018, Nichols has been living under a conservatorship that was once controlled by her former manager, Gilbert Bell, who was accused of abusing her financially, according to court documents obtained by .
Bell's lawyer later denied the allegations and called them "frivolous and offensive."
Her son, Kyle Johnson, 70, was then able to successfully gain control of the conservatorship, but Nichols’ friend Angelique Fawcette has alleged in court documents that he may also be abusing her financially, according to .
"You just can't come and take people’s home and money and just say, 'Hey, it's mine. Sorry, you're old, you're almost dead anyway, so I'm taking this,'" Fawcette told BuzzFeed News in January 2022 after a protest.
"Look at all these amazing old people who are out there doing things. They’re living the life 'til their last drop and that's really what I'm fighting for, for Nichelle."
Johnson's lawyers have also denied the claims and a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge later overruled her objections, stating that she does not have any standing to lodge her complaints, notes.
Is Nichelle Nichols married?
While Nichols' career spans decades, she was only married for a total of five years.
Her first marriage came in 1951 and was to her son's father, Foster Johnson.
Despite having a child together, Nichols and Johnson divorced the same year they got married.

She then tied the knot again in 1968 to Duke Mondy, but they divorced shortly after in 1972.
