SINGER Jewell has passed away at the age of 54, according to her former Death Row Records collaborator Daz Dillinger.

The R&B singer-songwriter is known for working with the iconic Hip Hop label and making hits with Dr Dr N.W.A., and Snoop Dogg, among other hip-hop icons.

Rapper Daz Dillinger shared the news of her passing on Instagram on Friday.

"RIP @iamjewellcaples. IM SAD THIS REALLY HURT BUT JEWELLZ PASSED THIS MORNING," he wrote alongside a picture of the singer.

"WOW DEATHROW FOR LIFE. WE GONE MISS HER.

"CLASSIC MUSIC. FAMILY OVER EVERYTHING."

Fans of the singer quickly took to social media to mourn her death.

One fan tweeted: "woah man...RIP Jewell. she graced so many classic Death Row joints. a beautiful voice and underrated ingredient in West Coast hip hop. Peace to her family & loved ones."

Another added: "RIP to one of the unsung stars of 90's era Death Row, Jewell."

A cause of death for the singer has not been revealed.

Known as "The First Lady of Death Row Records," Jewell signed with the legendary label in 1992, recording multiple multi-platinum R&B and Hip-Hop albums.

She appeared in Dr Dre's "The Chronic" album and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle," as well as Tupac's "All Eyez On Me."

Jewell's family has not yet released a statement on her death.
