Taking to , Hailey posted a 12-minute video in which she opened up about what she called “the scariest moment of her life”.

It comes after she shocked fans by revealing last month that she had suffered a mini-stroke.

In the video, she revealed what caused the stroke, and the surgery and treatment that followed.

On March 10, she was enjoying a morning with her husband Justin when she felt a “weird sensation”.

As Justin asked if she was okay, she realized she “couldn’t speak” and that the right side of her face started drooping.

“Obviously I thought I was having a stroke - a full-blown stroke”, she told her fans.

“That was really, really scary.”

After she regained the ability to speak and control of her facial muscles, she was taken to hospital where Hailey learned that she had experienced a TIA (transient ischemic attack).

A TIA delivers stroke-like symptoms for a temporary period of time, and is often referred to as a mini-stroke.

The mini-stroke was caused by a blood clot, which had escaped through a hole in her heart and gone to her brain.

She was informed that the clot had been caused by a “perfect storm” of birth control, Covid-19, and poor circulation on a long-haul flight.

Doctors at UCLA later told her that she had a grade 5 PFO (patent foramen ovale), which is a hole in the heart.

Following the shocking discovery, Hailey underwent a procedure to repair the PFO.

The model reassured her followers that she is now “much better” and that she is “recovering really well”.

Although she did also reveal how the whole ordeal affected her mental health, saying: "I would get really bad anxiety and my anxiety was making me feel funny.

"It would make my fingers and hands feel tingly, and I just honestly had a really, really hard time."

ROAD TO RECOVERY

Hailey is now receiving blood-thinning medication and aspirin.

However, the blood thinners made her anxiety worse until she was able to figure out the right dose with her doctor.

Concluding the story, she thanked the doctors who helped get her back to her feet.

She also shared resources about strokes and urged anyone watching who had gone through the same episode, but didn't understand what had happened to them, to seek medical help.

Although the Arizona native's health issues were somewhat known publicly, it was unclear exactly what had happened and what the resulting surgery entailed until Hailey provided this update.

ACT 'FAST'

The blood clot which travelled to Hailey's brain caused a mini-stroke,

Strokes are generally preventable by living a healthy lifestyle - that’s quitting smoking, cutting down on alcohol, exercise, and eating well.

The easiest way to remember the three main signs of a stroke are with the FAST test.

This is:

  • Facial weakness: Can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
  • Arm weakness: Can the person raise both arms?
  • Speech problems: Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
  • Time to call 911: if you see any of these signs.

These are the three most common signs of a stroke.

But there are other signs to be wary of.

These include:

  • Sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body, including legs, hands or feet.
  • Difficulty finding words or speaking in clear sentences.
  • Sudden blurred vision or loss of sight in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden memory loss or confusion, and dizziness or a sudden fall.
  • A sudden, severe headache.

Getting help for someone having a stroke immediately is vital because it can cause long-lasting effects.

This may leave people with long-term difficulties with speech, memory, concentration, spatial awareness and more.
