A fourth chimed in: “Liza Minelli in a wheelchair broke my heart.”
GAGA’S A LADY
Viewers also praised Gaga for how patient and attentive she was to Liza on stage.
A hot-mic caught the pop icon bending over to tell her: “I got you.”
The legendary actress replied whispering: “I know.”
Fans were touched by Gaga’s dignity and compassion.
One fan on Twitter said: “Very sweet. How Lady Gaga was able to navigate the situation to keep the show moving and safeguarding Liza’s dignity was masterful, and shows what a good heart she has.”
Another said: “The class, kindness, and glowing respect Lady Gaga showed toward Liza Minnelli made up for a lot about this nutty evening, and I promise you I will have a soft spot for Gaga for the rest of my life.”
A third added: “While everyone is talking about Will Smith and Chris Rock, the real moment of the show was when Lady Gaga told Liza Minnelli, ‘I got you.’”
The tender display at the end of the ceremony was a dramatic contrast to the earlier altercation between Chris Rock and Will Smith.
Will smacked Chris on stage for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith while presenting an award.
FOR THE LOVE OF LIZA
Although she was an active performer at the peak of her career, Liza now rarely makes public appearances.
She has had to resort to using a wheelchair over the years as a result of her medical condition.
According to , Liza was diagnosed with a disease called encephalitis in October 2000.
This disease, which is also known as an inflammation of the brain, can cause movement disorders, seizures, and sensitivity to light and sound.
As a result, she was advised to use a wheelchair.
Liza has had the privilege of being one of the few celebrities to win an Emmy, a Grammy, and an Oscar.
