Fans were touched by Gaga’s dignity and compassion.
One fan on Twitter said: “Very sweet. How Lady Gaga was able to navigate the situation to keep the show moving and safeguarding Liza’s dignity was masterful, and shows what a good heart she has.”
Another said: “The class, kindness, and glowing respect Lady Gaga showed toward Liza Minnelli made up for a lot about this nutty evening, and I promise you I will have a soft spot for Gaga for the rest of my life.”
A third added: “While everyone is talking about Will Smith and Chris Rock, the real moment of the show was when Lady Gaga told Liza Minnelli, ‘I got you.’”
The tender display at the end of the ceremony was a dramatic contrast to the earlier altercation between Chris Rock and Will Smith.
Will smacked Chris on stage for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith while presenting an award.
