Shamed Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz looks unrecognizable with disheveled hair in rare sighting near new Florida home
FORMER Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz appears unrecognizable in shocking new photos after quietly relocating to Florida in the aftermath of his cheating scandal.
The disgraced religious leader was fired from the New York-based church for "moral failures" in 2020, before moving to California and then disappearing from the public eye.
His alleged mistress, fashion designer Ranin Karim, exclusively told The Sun sordid details of their affair, but his wife Laura chose to stand by him throughout the ordeal.
Exclusive photographs obtained by The Sun confirm the family has now settled in Florida after a disastrous few years which saw many in the Hillsong community abandon them.
In one snap, Justin Bieber's ex-spiritual advisor looks almost unrecognizable with a thinner frame and messy mid-length curls, as his wife dropped him at the airport ahead of a solo trip.
He was seen without his trademark large glasses and opted for a black tee-shirt, light blue jeans, and black cowboy boots as he was seen stepping out of Laura's car.
Carl, caught grinning as he made his way up an escalator, also carried a gray weekender and black bag as he headed to check-in before his flight on Friday morning.
A source. told The Sun in 2021 that Carl was "using every resource to land a TV deal" in Hollywood after being fired, but is yet to relaunch his career or join a new church.
Laura, 43, who has rebranded herself as an interior designer and launched her own business, also appears in photographs leaving their house as she took her young son to school.
With her brunette hair tied back, she was seen dressed casually in a black sleeveless top, jeans, and dark Converse sneakers as she juggled a bag, jacket, and other belongings.
Their move to Florida comes ahead of a scathing three-part docuseries, Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed, which drops on Discovery+ on March 24 and is set to open old wounds.
A new trailer for the series shows Ranin discussing her five-month steamy affair with Carl on camera.
After being ousted by the church, Laura supported her husband, 43, during a stint at an outpatient facility that specializes in "depression, anxiety, and pastoral burnout," according to PEOPLE.
He previously admitted to being unfaithful in his marriage in an emotional Instagram post back in November 2020, saying he wanted to "rebuild the trust" with his wife and children.
The couple has been married for almost two decades after tying the knot in 2003 and also left Hillsong after her husband's cheating was revealed.
In the past year, Laura has shared her story with followers on Instagram, saying she has struggled with anxiety and PTSD for the first time after the scandal.
She added that she wouldn't wish her journey "on my worst enemy," joking she has "a few" but is now healing, focusing on family, and learning to grow in her marriage.
Laura was encouraged to take an online course and retrain as a designer but has noticeably dropped her surname from her business, creating the Instagram handle @laurajaynedesign and an accompanying website.
"Starting anything new is scary and risky... but this past year has taught me that life is too short to not try things that you are passionate about," she wrote in one post.
Former celebrity pastor Carl previously hid his affair with jewelry designer Karim from his wife for months until she apparently read his text messages and uncovered the infidelity.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Karim said the two met at Domino Park in Brooklyn during the coronavirus lockdown and immediately hit it off.
LAURA'S STRUGGLE
However, she claimed Carl lied about his true identity and told her he was an unmarried sports agent and they quickly "fell in love."
But their relationship took an explosive turn after she alleged his wife saw all of their messages - including "naughty photos" - which were connected to his work computer at the church office while several other co-workers were also present.
Hillsong launched an investigation and he was fired, while sources told The Sun at least THREE more women came forward to claim they had relations with the pastor but wanted to stay anonymous.
Carl and the church have never returned requests for comment on these claims.
The scandal-hit public speaker moved to LA for a brief period, and The Sun revealed Tyler Perry "spent $100K" on their rented $4.29M luxury home by the beach as the movie mogul vowed to stick by him.
The house later went up for sale and the family hasn't been pictured in months as they quietly packed up and moved to Florida after selling their own home in the New Jersey town of Montclair for $1.5M.
Now, the bombshell Discovery documentary sets to put Hillsong back in the spotlight with further details of Carl's conduct during his time at the church likely to emerge.
The series is also set to focus on founder Brian Houston - who resigned in January amid an ongoing court case accusing him of hiding his late father's sexual abuse of children - which the church has denied.
BOMBSHELL DOCUMENTARY
Brian, 67, is expecting to plead not guilty on March 10 and will later face a two-week hearing in Syndey, Australia where Hillsong was first founded in 1983.
Police allege he knew from September 1999 that his late father Frank had indecently assaulted a male in 1970.
Hillsong is a global megachurch with more than 150,000 members that made a brand of itself and became popular with wealthy celebrities.
Some controversies within megachurches usually involve the disastrous and toxic leadership by pastors.
