Britney Spears’ conservatorship ENDS after 13 years as judge rules in favor of iconic pop star
BRITNEY Spears's conservatorship finally ended on Friday after 13 years as a judge ruled in favor of the pop star to allow her to finally take full control of her life and career.
Britney's father Jamie had been removed as conservator in September after he filed to step down from the position.
Now, Judge Brenda Penny has ruled that Britney's conservatorship be terminated without requiring any further mental evaluation - giving the hitmaker control of her life for the first time since 2008.
Britney's lawyer, Matt Rosengart, began the hearing on Friday quoting Britney's June testimony in which she said, "I just want my life back."
The judge then asked all the lawyers in court if they had any objections, which all said no.
The termination was approved with minor exceptions, including that her estate conservatorship remain intact.
The singer's lawyer explained the estate includes documents needed for the assets she has in the conservatorship to be transferred to a trust controlled by Britney.
Additionally, the hearing did not end the dispute over how the conservatorship was handled.
GOING AFTER JAMIE
Mathew said he wants records from everyone involved in the conservatorship, especially Jamie and business manager Lou Taylor, in order to see how much money they moved from the conservatorship to their personal accounts.
The lawyer believes there has been misappropriation of assets by a number of people in the legal matter.
Britney is worth an estimated $60 million, though the lawyer argued Britney's net worth is even more due to lawyers, Jamie, Lou Taylor and others taking cuts and salaries from her estate.
BRITNEY REACTS
A source close to Britney told The Sun: “I don’t know if there is a word to explain what Britney is feeling. She cried and cried and cried celebrating with Sam. They’re both so excited and grateful. She feels this is really the first day of a new life”
Outside the courthouse, Britney's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart exclusively told The Sun: "Britney has made sure from California to New York that conservatorship like this, which are abused by people like her father, have a new spotlight on them. If it can happen to Britney it can happen to anybody.
"Today was an emotional day for many people and it was a day that was a long time coming. Britney loves her fans so much and credits them with her freedom. She knows they’re essential to what happened today.
FREEING BRITNEY
A member of Britney's legal team exclusively told The Sun ahead of the hearing: "Britney and Mathew fully believe that if all goes according to plan, she will be a free woman by the end of the day.
"She has been emotional all week and was crying last night both happy tears and tears of joy. I think she doesn’t fully believe it’s coming to an end yet after so many years of pushing and fighting.
They added, "She keeps saying “I can’t believe it’s really happening” and I don’t think it will sink in until after the hearing.”
The source added that Britney is feeling ready for justice after spending 13 years of her life under the extremely restrictive conservatorship.
“She spent years afraid of her father but she’s not afraid anymore. She’s confident and ready for vengeance and with her new team around her, that’s exactly what she is going to get." they told The Sun.
"This is only the beginning of justice for her and only the beginning of investigations into anyone who has wronged her over the years.”
Prior to the decision, the 39-year-old had been quite open on her Instagram, even sharing with fans in a now-deleted post: "This week is gonna be very interesting for me!
"I haven't prayed for something more in my life."
BRITNEY'S BATTLE
It has been a longtime coming for the entertainer, as a few months ago the court agreed to her dad's filing to remove him from the star's conservatorship.
Judge Penny said at the time: "Based on what I read in the filings, and I read everything. I do believe the suspension of Jamie Spears is in the best interest of Britney Spears.
"The current situation is unattainable. The court finds the toxic environment Jamie Spears has created needs to be removed today."
Before the judge's statement, Britney's lawyer Mathew S. Rosengart had slammed Jamie, 69, as a "toxic, abusive alcoholic" in court.
All this comes after the Hulu documentary titled Framing Britney Spears was released earlier this year, which shocked fans and led to various celebrities chiming in, including her ex Justin Timberlake.

It also reignited the Free Britney campaign, with rallies being held in support of the singer.
Britney would then make shocking allegations during a court hearing in June, claiming due to the conservatorship she was not allowed to get married and was forced to get an IUD she cannot take out to have another baby.
More documentaries would follow, including Netflix's Britney vs Spears.
LIFE CHANGES
Britney has made various changes in her life since, most notably becoming engaged to Sam Asghari, 27.
